The two dimensions of AgiLevel
AgiLevel analyzes organizational agility by separating two dimensions that, although related, follow different logics and evolve at different rates:
Operational dimension: flexibility
Determined by the procedures, techniques, and working practices in use. It measures the extent to which teams use methods suited to iterative and incremental development: how they manage their work, how they deliver value, how they inspect and adapt.
Organizational dimension: fluidity
Determined by the organization's personality traits: its culture, its decision-making structures, its tolerance for change, and the way it manages knowledge and information. An organization can have teams that are highly agile operationally but held back by a culture that can't handle uncertainty or delegate decision-making.
Why the distinction matters
A team can apply Scrum with discipline—planning sessions, dailies, retrospectives—and still work in an organizational context that neutralizes the benefits of agility: hierarchies that slow decisions down, lack of access to the customer, a failure-averse culture. AgiLevel makes it possible to detect this kind of imbalance by measuring both dimensions separately.
AgiLevel and AI in organizations
The arrival of generative AI is adding new questions to the diagnosis of organizational agility:
- Operational flexibility: do teams have the workflows and technical practices needed to integrate AI tools effectively and responsibly?
- Organizational fluidity: does the organization have the culture and governance structure to decide which AI tools are adopted, with what data, and against what quality criteria?
